United Matches Delta and Continental’s Increase in Bag Fees

Cheap airplane tickets and cheap vacation packages just got a little more expensive for fliers who have to check baggage and are flying on one three major US Airlines. United has announced that it will charge $25 for the first bag checked, if it is checked at the airport, matching Delta and Continentals new fees.

All three airlines are now charging $35 fee to check a second bag.

Travelers can save $2 on the first bag checked and $3 on a second bag if bags are checked online.

The fee increase applies to domestic flights and trips between the U.S., Canada, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Uniteds price hike is effective January 21st for tickets bought after January 13th. Continentals new bag prices took effect on tickets purchased after January 8th for travel beginning on or after January 16th.

United and Continental fliers can have baggage fees waived if they are elite level frequent fliers, premium class travelers, purchasers of full fare economy tickets, or active U.S. military personnel.

Continental is also allowing passengers possessing a Continental Airlines Chases credit card to check their first bags for free.
