Passenger Bomb Threat Diverts Flight

Remember the good old days when all travelers had to worry about were finding cheap airplane tickets and discount hotel rooms? Recently, threatening passengers have resulted in several flights being diverted from their scheduled destinations.

Wednesday (1/13) a disruptive Dutch passenger made fake bomb threats while on an ArkeFly flight transporting 235 people from Amsterdam to Aruba, resulting in the plane making an emergency landing at the Shannon Airport in Ireland. ArkeFly is an operator of charter flights.

A search of the plane by Irish police turned up no bombs. A 44 year old Dutch national was arrested.

The disruptive passenger appeared to be unstable and acted aggressively during the flight, mentioning repeatedly that he had planted a bomb on the plane.

He did not appear to make any attempt to set off a bomb during the flight.

This is the third problem flight departing from Amsterdams Schiphol airport in the last three weeks. On Christmas day a Nigerian passenger attempted to blow up a plane headed to Detroit.

On Tuesday, 1/12, a Northwest crew requested that authorities meet their plane when it landed in Detroit after four passengers refused to follow crew instructions. The unruly passengers were interviewed by Customs and Border Protection officials but no arrests were made.
