Other contributing factors to Mexicos continuing popularity as a tourist destination include the relative safety of most tourist resorts and the fact that the 2009 swine flu pandemic is now a thing of the past.
Each year tens of thousands of students from America travel to resorts in Mexico during spring break. Cancun, Playa del Carmen and other destinations on the Riviera Maya are among the most popular.
Mexican towns along the U.S. border are where most of the drug violence is taking place and where the U.S. State Department recently cautioned students not to visit. American tourist drug related violence at beach locations and other Mexican tourist destinations is unusual.

8 percent more American tourists visited Mexico in the first half of 2010 than the same period a year earlier. All encompassing vacation package deals at resorts have proven to be particularly attractive.
