Florida Still Top Spot for Spring Break

Cheap traveloptions, including cheapairplane tickets, discount hotel rooms, and cheapvacation packages have contributed to help Florida remain the number1 spring break destination as has its weather, beaches, and many entertainmentoptions.

College revelers are arriving in droves to Cocoa Beach andother Florida party hotspots, to blow off classroom steam and drink copiousamounts of alcohol while enjoying the oceanfront. Most students from northern states have beencooped up by the epic, bitter winter.

While Floridas spring break favorite hotspots have evolvedover time, with some cities dropping off students radar and other popping backon, statewide tourism continues to grow in the first quarter of the year. Out of state visitors during these monthscame in at an all-time high of 26.3 million in 2013 vs. 19.4 million in 2000,an increase of 36 percent.

2014s first quarter is on track to shatter last yearsrecord. The belief is that because ofthe weather that the Northeast and Central states have experienced this winter thatthere is pent up demand and Florida is seen as an opportunity to go south andhave a good time.

The unusually cold winter in southern states, such as Alabama,Georgia, and Tennessee is also responsible for tourists leaving these states toenjoy the warm weather in Florida. Muchof the south has not experienced such a bitter weather in a long time.

The Orlando area, including Brevard County, is ranked asthe United States second most popular spring break destination between March 1stand April 15th. South Floridaheads the top 10 list for the third consecutive year, with Fort Myers coming infourth and Tampa-St Petersburg eighth.

Some travel experts attribute Floridas spring breakattendance increases to parents and children vs. party seeking 20 somethingyear olds. Florida is the Number 1leisure travel family destination in the United States.

Families of any age can spend anywhere from one day to twoweeks fully immersed in the sights and sounds of Disneys Magic Kingdom, Epcot,LegoLand Florida, SeaWorld, and Universal Studios, to name just a few of themany entertainment parks. Within anhours drive families can leave Orlando and play at Cocoa Beach or explore theKennedy Space Center.

Over the years Daytona Beach and Fort Lauderdale have tamedtheir legendary wild spring break crowds to become more family orienteddestinations. Hotels have set occupancystandards so that 8 to 10 college kids can no longer pack into a single roomand dirt cheap hotel deals have been largely discontinued. Today drinking age restrictions are alsobeing enforced.
