JetBlue Allowing Families to Pool Loyalty Points

JetBlue Airways is where many a traveler goes to find cheap travel deals such as cheap airplane tickets, discount travel deals, and cheap vacation packages. Now JetBlue is becoming even more family friendly by allowing family members of its TrueBlue loyalty program to combine loyalty points.

Details of its new family pooling are as follows:

Families can consist of up to 2 adults and 5 children. At a minimum, there must be 2 individuals in a Family Pooling account.

The Head of Household will manage all of the points in their Family Pooling account.

Any adult can start a Family Pooling account and be the Head of Household. You just have to be a TrueBlue member to get started.

An adult is anyone 21 and older. A child is anyone under 21.

Upon accepting an invitation to begin pooling, each family member will select how many points to contribute upfront (with zero transfer fees) and the percentage of points they want to contribute on an ongoing basis per transaction.

Changes in contributions can be made once a year starting on the date the family account was formed.

Members are not permitted to join multiple different Family Pooling accounts.

Families can include same-sex partners, or even two unrelated friends.

JetBlue may be enhancing its loyalty program in part because it does not have nearly as many airline partner options as other major airlines. JetBlue is currently partnered with American Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines, Aer Lingus and Emirates. Its number of partners dims when compared to United Airlines 28 worldwide Star Alliance airline partners and Delta Air Lines SkyMiles Award Travel program that includes 26 worldwide partner airlines.

The TrueBlue reward program is already considered superior to many of its competitors because members are allowed to redeem points for any available seat on any JetBlue operated flight with no blackout dates. Also its points never expire. Other airlines charge a fee to transfer miles between loyalty program members.

To improve its desirability when compared to much larger airlines, JetBlue has announced plans to make its intercontinental flights between New York City and San Francisco and Los Angeles more attractive to business class travelers. Commencing next summer and fall, select flights between New York and its two West Coast cities will offer fully flat beds, private suites, dual power outlets with USB ports, amenity kits, and a tapas menu.
