Those with One Carry-on Given Security Preference

The delight felt in snagging cheap airplane tickets or cheap vacation packages is sometimes diminished by the frustration later experienced when going through seemingly endless lines at airport security checkpoints.

Now Pittsburghs airport is rewarding passengers with an expedited security lane for those traveling with only one carry-on bag. Referred to as Express Security Lane it is the first of its kind in the U.S.

Jackets are not considered a carry-on item. Carry-ons are required to be no larger than 22 by 14 by 9. This includes purses, brief cases, computer cases, etc.

The purpose of the Express Lane is to streamline the wait for travelers going through security who pack light and fit their carry-on into a single bag. This new approach was motivated because people are increasingly carrying more items through security checkpoints to avoid airline baggage fees.

Baggage fees have resulted in fewer travelers checking bags and taking more and larger bags through airport security checkpoints.

The additional screening of these items places a burden on the screening process. With the Express Lane we will be able to alleviate that burden and move passengers through the process at a better pace, according at Pittsburghs Federal Security Director.

The new program was implemented in September with the hope that it will have a positive effect on the upcoming busy holiday travel season. www.cheapfares.com
