Spirit Plans to Charge $5 to Print Boarding Pass

Spirit Airlines is famous for its cheap airplane tickets and cheap vacation packages as well as for leading the airline industry in coming up with a continuing stream of new fees. The only U.S. airline that charges for carry-on luggage has announced that it will charge customers $5 to have their boarding passes printed by an agent at airports starting November 1st.

This new fee will be charged per person and will be imposed on all domestic and international flights reserved after June 20th, for travel after November 1st.

Passengers will not have to pay this fee if they check in online or at a self service airport kiosk. Spirit has announced that it will charge a one dollar fee for kiosk check in starting June 26th, 2012, after which only Spirits online check in will continue to be free.

Spirits CEO explained Spirit latest new fee saying Its all about customer choice. We could charge more and include everything in a high fare, but that presumes that all customers want all options. By charging only those who choose for us to print their boarding pass, we let the customer decide.

Spirit is a relative small airline that flies largely out of East Coast cities through Florida and on to the Caribbean. Spirit also announced that it is lowering prices by $5 per destination. www.cheapfares.com
