Frontier Expanding Service to Cleveland

Frontier Airlines enjoys a reputation for offering cheap traveloptions including cheapfares, cheap airplane tickets, and cheap vacation packages. It has decided to add six new destinationsfrom Cleveland this summer, establishing the city as one of its focus citieswhile United Airlines begins to dismantle its hub there.

Frontiers hub is in Denver, with focus cities currently inTrenton, N.J. and Wilmington, DE.

In early February United announced that it would slash itsnumber of daily Cleveland flights by about 60 percent, retaining most if itsmainline flights but reducing about 70 percent of those flown by thecompanys United Express regional partners. All cuts are expected to be completed by June, leaving United with 72daily departures vs. 199 at the beginning of the year.

While Frontiers new flights will not come close tobackfilling all of the capacity that United is pulling out, any new airlineservice to Cleveland is welcomed by the airport. The Cleveland Hopkins International Airportis touting Frontiers new routes suggesting that locals will benefit from lowerprices as the low cost airline increases its Cleveland market share.

Frontiers new destinations from Cleveland will be Atlanta,Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers, Florida, Phoenix, Raleigh-Durham, and Tampa. Starting June 13th Frontier will offer fiveflights weekly to Atlanta. Three flightsweekly will be offered by the airline to the other five destinations. Currently only the Phoenix service will beseasonal.

A 168 seat Airbus A320 jet will be flown by Frontier on allsix new routes.

Once the new service commences, Frontier will be flyingnonstop to 12 destinations from Cleveland. Today the airline flies from Cleveland to Denver and Trenton, N.J. Nonstop service to Seattle and Orlando willstart in June. Frontier also flies fromCleveland to Cancun Mexico and Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic via itspartnership with Apple Vacations.

Less than a month after United announced its shrinkingpresence in Cleveland Delta stated that it would add nonstop service fromCleveland to Indianapolis and Raleigh-Durham. Both of these markets are being dropped by United out of Cleveland asUnited downsizes its operation. Deltawill begin servicing these routes on June 5th.

United has announced that it will add new service out ofCleveland to Orlando and Seattle starting in mid-June. The Seattle service will backfill seasonalservice that United had previously offered out of Cleveland during the summerseason.
