The last thing you need to face is theadditional expense of having to pay for your pet to fly.

Many Americans consider pets as members of the family andthey would no more travel without them than leave one of their children behind.

Unfortunately airlines not only charge fees when you fly acaged animal in the hold, but most airlines charge $100 or more even to place asmall pet carrier below the seat in front of you.

  • TheAmerican Express Premier Rewards Gold card offers a similar annual airlines feecredit that can be used to pay for pet fees, but only provides a credit up to$100 per calendar year. Cardholders earnthree times points for flights booked directly with airlines, two times pointsfor purchases at U.S. restaurants, gas stations, and supermarkets, and onetimes points on all other purchases. This cards annual fee is $195, which is waived the first year.

  • TheCiti Prestige card offers its cardholders a $250 annual airline fee credit eachcalendar year which includes reimbursement for pet fees. Three times points are earned for air traveland hotel purchases, two times points for dining and entertainment expenses,and one point per dollar for everything else. Cardholders are provided access to the American Airlines and PriorityPass Select airport lounges. An annualfee of $450 is charged for this card.

  • TheRitz-Carlton Reward credit card comes with a $300 annual airline fee crediteach calendar year which can be applied against airline charges to flypets. Additional benefits include threeupgrades to the Ritz-Carlton club level each year and a $100 hotel credit onpaid stays of two or more nights. Alsoincluded is an annual Lounge Club membership, which provides access to hundredsof airport lounges around the world. This cards annual fee is $395.

  • Cardssuch as the Capital One Venture Rewards card earns members miles that can beredeemed as statement credits towards any travel related expense, including petfees. This card rewards double miles forall purchases and values each mile at one cent. The card is free for the first year and $59 each year thereafter.
