Exercise Increasing at Airports

Frequent travelers smart enough to know how to find cheap airplane tickets and discount travel packages are increasingly finding airports that are offering them ways to work out while they wait for their departing planes.

In an attempt to help passengers deal with delays and long layovers airports are starting to offer travelers alternatives to just sitting while waiting for takeoff.

San Francisco International unveiled a yoga room in January in its recently refurbished Terminal 2. Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport has a 1.4 mile marked walking path in a couple of concourses. Travelers can check out an 18-hole golf course or do yoga or tai chi at the Los Angeles International Airport.

Passengers are increasingly interested in maintaining an active, fit lifestyle. Exercise is a great way to limit the risks of air related health problems.

Potential health hazards in the air include blood clots caused by sitting in cramped space, dehydration and jet lag. Moving regularly, drinking lots of water, and eating healthy improve peoples flying experiences.

While a few airports offer gyms, yoga rooms or walking paths, experienced travelers are not limiting themselves to such airports to exercise. Passengers have started making a point of walking through terminals, avoiding the moving walkways, elevators and escalators. Some even use their carry-on bags as weights.

At larger airports customers have been known to intentionally avoid taking trains between terminals and walking instead, pulling a rolling bag and large briefcase for additional exercise.
