Airline Votes to Strike over the Holidays

Think cheap airplane tickets or a great deal on discount travel packages means much when the airline you are scheduled to fly on is facing a strike?

Ninety percent of the British Airway flight attendants voted Monday to strike over the Christmas season. They have announced their intention to walk off their jobs on December 22nd and return 12 days later.

The flight attendants union has been involved in a prolonged dispute with British Airways over pay and job cuts, and changes in work practices. Their union has expressed regret in this pending strike but claims that they must take this action in order to get its members voices heard.

The union offered a fig leaf to British Airways in saying there remains an opportunity for this disruption not to occur.

British Airways has announced that it is reworking its flight schedules during the strike period and hopes to announce them as soon as possible. They plan on contacting passengers directly so long as they have their email address or via SMS text if they have their mobile phone numbers.
