What to Wear on a Plane

After the thrill of snagging cheap airplane tickets and discount hotel rooms or cheap vacation packages starts to wear off, you need to spend a little time figuring out what you want to wear on your plane.

The following is advice from Independent Traveler as to the proper clothing to wear in the air:

Avoid tight clothing. Wear natural, breathable fabrics. Tight clothes can restrict blood flow in the already limited space of an airplane seat. Deep vein thrombosis occurs when blood clots form in veins and can result in part from tight clothes worn when flying. Instead, wear loose fitting cotton or linen clothes that allow your skin to breath.

Do not wear high heels. Comfortable shoes are recommended when flying. Slip-on shoes are preferable since they make passing through security easier.

Make a point of not wearing perfume or cologne. Wear clothes that are freshly laundered. Keep in mind that odors are intensified on a plane and air is recycled throughout the cabin. The best seatmate is one who does not smell like anything.

Do not wear clothes that might be viewed as offensive by others. Instead wear clothes you would be comfortable wearing in a church. Passengers have been known for being booted off planes for politically offensive clothes including ones displaying curse words or controversial statements. Pants that expose parts of a persons behind or tops that show too much cleavage are other reasons passengers have been escorted off planes.

Instead of wearing warm weather clothing, wear clothes that layer. Passengers often endure a multitude of temperature changes when they fly. Remember the more clothes you tie around your waist or throw over your shoulder, the fewer you need to stuff in your bag.
