US Air Selling Priority Travel Services

Just because many people prefer flying via cheap airplane tickets and cheap vacation packages does not mean that some are not interested in possibly purchasing priority travel services. US Airways has decided to make such services available to all of its passengers for a fee.

US Airways has come out with an option it is calling PreferredAccess that customers can purchase when checking in online. This option allows customers fast track check-in, security lanes, and boarding, where available.

Previously such priority access was reserved for elite members of US Airways frequent flier program who receive these benefits for free.

US Airways said that it has decided to extend such benefits to others because time is so important to many of its customers. The airline noted PreferredAccess allows customers to experience a more convenient airport experience, be seated on the plane faster and have greater access to overhead bin space, similar to our Preferred members.

PreferredAccess fees start at $10 per passenger, per one way travel. Similar programs at American, Delta, and United start as low as $9 per passenger.

US Airways customers who purchase this option will be provided:

Priority check-in via dedicated lines at airport ticket counters for service and checked luggage.

Priority security lane access where available.

Priority (Zone 1) boarding after Envoy, first class, and Divided Miles Preferred members have boarded, at all airports, and dedicated boarding lanes, where available. Today such lanes are available at most gates in 21 cities.

Priority boarding lanes will roll out to an additional 38 cities by early fall. www.cheapfares.com
