United’s On-Time Performance Improving

Given that cheap airplane tickets and cheap vacation packages are available from many airlines, other factors, including an airlines on-time performance often is considered when selecting which airline to use.

To motivate/reward its employees, United Airlines is awarding its front line employees with a $100 bonus in December after the airline achieved its best month of on-time flights of 2012 in November.

Almost 86 percent of United domestic flights and over 81 percent of its international flights arrived within 14 minutes of their scheduled times last month. Its on-time performance for the 10 day period at the end of November, which included Thanksgiving, was its second best in the past five years even while flying full planes.

On Thanksgiving day over 95 percent of Uniteds flights arrived on time, which was the airlines second best day since January 1st of 08.

United Express affiliates likewise turned in their most outstanding on-time performance in November, with slightly over 81 percent of Uniteds regional flights arriving on time.

To inspire strong operational performances from Uniteds front line workers, the airline came out with a program that pays eligible employees $50 each month that domestic or international flights arrive on time at least 80 percent of the time and $100 if the company beats both on-time objectives.

United observed that its November on-time performance was particularly noteworthy given the continued impact of Superstorm Sandy and the Noreaster that followed in early November.
