United Offering Expedited Security Passage

To improve its revenue, United Airlines is offering its customers who usually prioritize traveling via cheap airplane tickets and cheap vacation packages the ability to get preferential (i.e., faster) service through airport security for a fee for as little as $9 per segment.

Airlines define a segment at that part of a flight between takeoff and landing. If an itinerary calls for one connection, that that means there are a total of two segments.

Uniteds Premier Access is a perk that used to be reserved exclusively for preferred customers. In addition to faster passage through security check points, Premier Access provides customers priority boarding and quicker check in.

United will limit the number of people who can purchase Premier Access so that the benefits of such access remain available to the carriers premier level frequent fliers and eligible card members.

The airline has announced that it is expanding its airport-to-doorstep luggage service, which is being handled by BagsVIP. This service allows United fliers to avoid handling bags altogether.

Under this program bags are delivered to any location within 100 miles of a passengers destination. Available in 36 cities today, United is getting ready to roll it out to 190 domestic airports. The first bag costs $29.95, two bags $39.95, and three to eight bags $49.95.
