Travel Can Improve Sex Life

While some people travel because of the availability of cheap airplane tickets, discount hotel rooms, and cheap vacation packages, couples now have even a better reason to travel. A recent survey found that couples who travel together tend to have better relationships and better sex than those who stay at home.

Almost two thirds of couples surveyed (1,100 adults) by the U.S. Travel Association said that a weekend getaway is more likely to spark romance in their relationship than a gift. 72 percent believe traveling stimulates romance.

77 percent of couples who travel said they have a good sex life vs. only 63 percent of couples who do not travel together. 28 percent of the couples said that their sex life was better after traveling together. 40 percent observed that the improvement was permanent.

Fewer interruptions is one of the main reasons attributed to improved relationships when couples travel. Checking emails tends to be less frequent, people are not knocking on the door, and the dog does not have to be walked.

Even when couples travel together when one spouse has to work, relationships tend to improve. Frequent business travelers tend to have lonely lives whereas couples traveling together tend to significantly reduce stress.

The survey also found that traveling together promotes longevity in the relationship. 84 percent of couples who travel together made it past the five year mark in their relationship vs. only 76 percent of those who did not.

Couples who travel together alone, rather than with friends or other couples, tend to feel closer and enjoy improved communication after a trip. Couple traveling tends to encourage people to talk, reconnect, and share new experiences.

While simply traveling as a couple will not by itself improve a relationship, learning how to travel together successfully will have a definite positive impact.
