Tips on Navigating Through Airport Security

Cheap airplane tickets and cheap discount hotel rooms are an excellent start to a great trip. However, wouldnt it be nice if going through security at the airport was a little less frustrating?

The following are a few things you can do that will not cost you a lot of money:

Purchase a checkpoint friendly laptop bag that allows security to capture a clear and unobstructed image of the laptop while still in the bag as it goes through the X-ray machine. A variety of such bags (some for under $20) can be founds at eBags.com.

Take advantage of hotel baggage service when available that allows you to check your bags at the hotel vs. at the airport. At several of the Disney hotels in Orlando, FL., guests can check their bags and get boarding passes for selected airlines. AirTran, Delta and United are some of the airlines participating in this program.

Selected parking lots close to large airports, including the Atlanta airport, have started offering customers the ability to check luggage at no additional cost. Mind you, you still have to pay whatever luggage fees the airlines are charging.

Use a PDA phone to display your mobile boarding pass. Passengers with Internet enabled mobile devices, such as an iPhone, can download boarding passes from select airlines at specific airports and then turn these devices over to federal security screeners and airline gate representatives to be scanned. Continental is now offering this service at over 24 airports. Although this service is now limited, it is expected to grow significantly.
