Things You Never Knew About Disney

There are plenty of cheap airplane tickets and discount hotel rooms or cheap vacation packages that will take you to Disneyland or Disney World. Famous for its many rides and attractions, there remain Disney secrets that few know about.

The following are some of those secrets:

There really are human remains in the Haunted Mansion. Visitors have been known to, without permission, scatter loved ones ashes in the Haunted Mansion.

After all the guests leave each night the parks fills up with hundreds of feral cats. Disney appreciates these felines because they help control the parks mouse population.

Immediately before the final five story drop on Splash Mountain cameras take a picture of the riders which they try to sell once guests exit the ride. In the late 1990s these photographs started looking obscene because exhibitionists started baring their breasts for the camera. Splash Mountains started being called Flash Mountain by some.

Finally Disney decided to hire employees to monitor the photos and pull down anything obscene before it was displayed on its big screen. This countermeasure was so successful that in 2009 Disneyland stopped having employees preview the photographs anymore, putting an end to the job of watching for topless riders.

Disneyland forbade its workers for 43 years from growing facial hair because it did not want employees to resemble the stereotypical image of a creepy carnival worker. In 2000 employees were allowed to sport mustaches (mind you, no beards or goatees), but only if they have mustaches when hired or grow them over a vacation.

Disney World is its own city; so authorized by the Florida State legislature. Disney World has the authority to open schools, create its own criminal system, and open a nuclear power plant, none of which it has chosen to do. The land is governed by a board of supervisors which is made up of Disney employees.

Disney paints its mundane behind the scene objects, such as fences, garbage bins, and administrative buildings a color referred to as Go Away Green which is a shade meant to help objects blend in with the landscaping.

Disneylands Matterhorn houses a basketball court as well as its famous bobsled like roller coaster that twists down a giant peak. The roller coaster occupies the bottom two thirds of the mountain, with the top third empty. Disney employees voted to put in a basketball court in the extra space.

Behind a dull green door in Disneylands New Orleans Square is one of the parks most exclusive and mysterious attractions: a VIP lounge called Club 33. This secret hideaway was built for dignitaries and celebrities. Those wanting to join have to be patient. It takes an average of ten years on a waiting list and then comes with a $10,000 initiation fee and a $3,500 annual fee for members. www.cheapfares.com
