Stupendous New Roller Coasters

The following are some of the thrilling new coasters that opened during the 2014 summer season:

Thunderbolt in Coney Island, New York is the first new roller coaster in New York City in over 80 years. Thunderbolt was named to mark the triumphant return of the classic of the same name that stood on the site since 1925. The modern version is an out and back steel coaster with a 125 foot lift hill and inversions, and can attain speeds of up to 65 mph.

Goliath in Six Flags Great America, Gurnee, Illinois is being touted as the Tallest! Steepest! Fastest! This is a wooden coaster with a near vertical 85 degree, 180 foot drop (both new records), with two inversions. Speeds of up to 72 mph can be reached, as this coaster sets three world records for wooden roller coasters.

Banshee in Kings Island, Mason, Ohio is being touted as the first female inspired theme park ride. This 15th Kings Island coaster is the longest inverted coaster on this planet with seven inversions, and can reach speeds of 68 mph on over 4,100 feet of track. It is also supposed to offer a fabulous color scheme.

Seven Dwarfs Mine Train at the Magic Kingdom, Lake Buena Vista, Florida is a family style coaster that represents the culmination of the largest expansion in the history of Walt Disney Worlds Magic Kingdom. The Seven Dwarfs Mine Train is the centerpiece of the New Fantasyland expansion, taking guests on a musical journey both inside and outside the gem filled caverns via mine cars swinging back and forth throughout the ride.

Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts at Universal Studios Florida, Orlando was the most anticipated new roller coaster for 2014. The popular Wizarding World of Harry Potter continues to expand with guests now able to enter Diagon Alley which is a London themed Harry Potter land featuring a Gringotts Bank attraction with an indoor roller coaster based on the Harry Potter films. The Escape from Gringotts ride takes visitors past the vaults of the famous Goblin bank.
