Standby Cheap Airplane Tickets Just Got More Expensive

With the economy continuing to be so tough, most travel experts expect cheap fares and cheap vacation packages to continue to be readily available. Unfortunately American Airlines has decided to restrict standby flight changes and will charge all passengers, including those paying for premium seats, $50 for confirmed same day changes on domestic and Canadian flights.

This change takes effect for all American tickets paid for after February 22nd. Passengers seated in premium cabins were formerly able to make changes for free on the day they were scheduled to fly.

Elite frequent flier passengers, active U.S. military personnel and travelers flying on Anytime Awards will be able to continue to fly standby for free.

The standby option will not be available to most coach passengers.

American Airlines new standby policies will also be implemented on American Eagle and American Connection flights.
