After a careful review of your cheap traveloptions such as cheapairplane tickets, discount hotel rooms, and cheap vacation packages, youmight want to do a little research in advance of your flight to determine thebest ways of sleeping comfortably while flying, if that is something thatsounds appealing.

Almost everyone wants to get some rest while flying butcrowded planes, tight seats, and crying babies can prove distracting.

The following are flight attendants tips on the best waysto enjoy some restful slumber while in the air, as compiled by Sid Lipsey:

  • Adjustyour expectations prior to flying and do not expect to sleep. Many passengers have unrealistic expectationson an all-night flight. Putting pressureon yourself to sleep almost guarantees that you will not dose off. Consider employing reverse psychology and tryto stay awake by reading or watching a video. Such activities often lead to sleep.

  • Get awindow seat since it provides a nice flat surface on which to rest yourhead. You will enjoy the additionalbenefit of not having to wake up every time someone has to crawl over you togain access to a lavatory.

  • Howwell you sleep often depends in part on what you wear. It helps to have on comfortable clothing andloose fitting shoes. Pressurizationwhile flying can cause bodies to swell and make things uncomfortable.

  • Buy/packairplane sleeping gear. A travel pillow, eye mask, and earbuds/headphone combo usually prove helpful. A neck pillow that prevents your head fallingfrom side to side is a must for many seasoned travelers.

  • Eatingand drinking the right things makes a big difference in inducing sleep. Some flight attendants swear by chamomile teaand suggest that passengers bring such tea from home. The crew will provide the hot water andcup. Avoid salty snacks since they canresult in bloating.

  • Considerwearing sunglasses at night which might help protect you from chatty seatmateswho could otherwise interfere with your sleeping plans. Big headphones also tend to have the sameeffect which is indicating to your neighbors that you want to be left alone.

Always remember not to place your feet on a bulkhead. The last thing passengers around you want todo is smell your feet while they are trying to sleep. The only thing worse than not being able tosleep is being responsible for preventing a fellow passenger fromsleeping.
