Route Expansion Expected to Drive Down Fares

There is good news for people who appreciate cheap travel optionssuch as cheapairplane tickets, discounttravel deals, cheapdeals, and cheap vacation packages. 10 new routes in particular in 2015 areexpected to result in cheaper airfares.

The following are those routes and the new competition thatis expected to have a ripple effect and drive down airfares for multipleairlines across many city pairs:

  • This monthJetBlue commenced new nonstop service between San Francisco and Las Vegas. Existing competition on nonstop flightsinclude Southwest, United, and Virgin America. The introductory rate on this nonstop route is as cheap as $148.

  • JetBluewill start flying from Boston to Cleveland on April 30th. This move partially fills a void created whenUnited Airlines dropped over 100 daily flights to Cleveland in 2014. This will be JetBlues 88thdestination.

  • SpiritAirlines started flying from Denver to San Diego on January 6th andwill commence flying from Denver to Los Angeles on April 16th. These new routes account for Spirits ninthand 10th nonstop connections out of Denver. On January 6th Spirit expanded itsDenver to Chicago service of nonstop flights to twice daily.

  • SouthwestAirlines will commence Saturday only flights from Houston to Aruba on March 7th. This new Caribbean route is expected to onlybe the first step in Southwests expansion into the Latin American market. Southwest recently applied for permission to flyfrom Houston to Belize City, Belize, Cancun, Costa Rica, Los Cabos, Mexico City,Puerto Vallarta, and San Jose.

  • SouthwestAirlines has added nonstop flights from Baltimore/Washington InternationalAirport to San Jose, Costa Rica.

  • AllNippon Airways (ANA) will start flying between Houston and Tokyo on June 12th. Narita Airport and Houston Bush Internationalare expected to give United Airlines serious competition. Both airlines flights will be nonstop. This new route will mark ANAs 10thNorth American destination and may be the catalyst to connect Houston toCentral and South America.

  • SpiritAirlines will start flying between Houston and Tampa with daily nonstop serviceon March 26th. This is one of10 new nonstop routes to Bush International that Spirit announced inDecember. After these new routes areadded Spirit will fly 22 city pairs out of Houston International Airport.

  • AmericanAirlines will commence flights between New York City and Birmingham, England onMay 7th. American has plansto expand its reach to five other U.K. cities, including Edinburgh. Some of these new transatlantic routes areseasonal. American will double itsnumber of flights (to two daily) between Los Angeles and London on March 29th.

  • AmericanAirlines will re-enter the Miami to Frankfurt market on May 14th andgive Lufthansa a run for its money.

  • VirginAmerica started nonstop flights four times a week between Boston and Las Vegason January 8th. This will bea seasonal route through April 28th and creates direct competitionfor JetBlue. This is JetBlues secondmost popular route. Virgin America hasalso added seasonal flights from New Yorks JFK to Ft. Lauderdale which willcontinue through April 28th.
