While cheap airplane tickets and cheap vacation packages often make travel possible over the holidays, people sometimes have to deal with unruly children on planes, noisy neighbors at hotels, and other travel challenges.
The following are suggestions on how to handle some of these challenges from Travel + Leisure:
Middle seat passengers should be given free access to both inner armrests since aisle and window passengers will always have at least one armrest.
When seated on a plane by noisy children or someone that is kicking the back of your chair look to see if a parent is trying to correct the situation. If the parents are oblivious, then politely bring the problem to the attention of the parents. If you prefer not to speak to the parents directly, then ask a flight attendant for assistance.
When faced with a noisy hotel room neighbor do not knock on the door and ask for quiet. Instead contact the manager on duty. If the noise persists, request being moved to another room.
If you find yourself in a taxi and believe that your driver is reckless, do not stay in the cab. Ask the driver to stop and pay whatever is owed. Make a point of getting the taxi or medallion number to report any unsafe driver.
If you do not like wine you ordered at a restaurant, tell your waiter why you do not like it. Remember though sometimes wine needs time to open up.
When traveling with someone else and you are about to enter a revolving door you should go first so long as you are healthy since the door may require some pushing and by going first you can help the person behind you.
