Reclining Seats a Right or a Nuisance?

After having thought it would be a great trip because of the purchase of cheap airplane tickets, and discount hotel rooms, few things are as frustrating as having the person seated one row ahead of you fully recline his seat after take-off.

Some passengers view reclining their seats on a plane as a right they have after purchasing a ticket while others believe that it is a privilege that should not be abused.

Some travelers would like to see a ban on reclining seats on planes particularly as airline cabins grow more crowded and cramped.

Spirit Airlines announced last spring that it was installing pre-reclined seats on some of its planes in order to save space and cost. These seats permanently recline about three inches, but cannot go back any further or be made to sit more upright.

For travelers who hate having seats reclined into their laps they would be wise to consult charts on SeatGurus website which indentify those seats that do not recline. By requesting a seat behind a non-reclining seat, you do not have to deal with an inconsiderate fellow passenger.

Passengers wishing to be courteous to their fellow passengers are encouraged to look at the seat behind prior to reclining and if another person is seated there to only partially recline their seats.
