Not everyone is in the market for cheap airplane tickets or cheap vacation packages. Upscale travelers frequently want to fly Business Class, often on a companys dime.
Every airline offers a different type of seat in business class. Some face forward while others face back. Some seats have total privacy while others allow you to talk to your neighbor. Depending on your travel needs some business class seats are better suited to you.
The following are factors that you should consider:
If you are the type of passenger who can sleep on a plane, select an airline with flat beds in Business Class. American offers lie flat seats which are technically flat, but the entire bed is at an angle pointing down, throughout its international fleet, as does Air France and KLM. Delta and United are in the middle of a transition to fully flat beds, as is US Airways. International airlines such as British Airway and Singapore now offer flat beds, whereas Lufthansa and Japan Airline offer lie flat beds.
If you are traveling with someone whom you will want to talk to avoid herringbone seats where it is difficult to see whos next to you. The upside of such seats is that they are very private and ideal for sleeping. These seats are offered by Virgin Atlantic, on Deltas 777 airplanes, Air Canada and Air New Zealand.
The recliner, or cradle style seat is ideal for lounging but not particularly good for sleeping. These seats are being taken out by most airlines as they upgrade their Business Class sections but for now can be found on Deltas 767s and Uniteds 777s.
If you suffer from motion sickness when flying, consider which direction your seat will be facing. For some passengers a rear facing seat can be disorienting. British Airways offers flat beds that alternate the direction they face. The window seats face back and the aisle next to it faces front. United changes the direction of its premium seats alternating by row.
No airline has all backwards facing seats, but it pays to find out which direction you will be facing prior to selecting a seat. www.cheapfares.com
