Cheap airplane tickets and cheap vacation packages are great but do nothing to mitigate the frustration passengers flying from foreign airports experience when having to deal with their baggage being screened twice when returning to the U.S.
Congress has passed the No-Hassle Flying Act which allows Transportation Security Administration (TSA) employees additional discretion in screening checked baggage arriving in the U.S. from certain international airports.
If this bill is signed by the President, TSA officers will be able to decide whether baggage on flights coming from select airports in Canada, the Caribbean, and Ireland where the U.S. Customs and Border Protection has established preclearance operations needs to be re-screened in American before continuing onto another flight.
The current policy of re-screening checked baggage arriving from preclearance airports is causing many passengers to miss connecting domestic flights. The TSA supports this legislation, noting it will greatly improve the customer experience and improve efficiency for cross-border travel.
Support for this act has come from several travel industry groups. Airlines for America observed This is a smart, efficient way to streamline travel, boost tourism and lower costs while maintaining the higher security standards. The Global Business Travel Association said it commends Congress for its bipartisan support of legislation to facilitate business travel to the United States.
