New Body Scanning Technology

Despite widespread availability of cheap airplane tickets and cheap vacation packages, some prospective travelers have been reluctant to fly because full body scanners at airports have been displaying naked images of everyone going those scanners.

At the beginning of September Newark Liberty International Airport became the first New York area airport to install new body scanning software which displays a gray silhouette of a generic body.

This new technology was tested in February at Atlanta, Las Vegas and Washington, D.C. airports and then started being installed at other airports in July. This software will be rolled out to 241 full body scanners at 40 U.S. airports over the next couple of months. Plans are to install this software in all airports over time.

Screens displaying generic bodies will be placed at security checkpoints in an area where both the traveler and the security official can view it.

Previously images of travelers bodies were displayed in a separate room where a security officer then had to radio an agent at the checkpoint if a traveler was carrying something than needed additional security screening.

The new system speeds the process by displaying yellow boxes around the exact locations of items that warrant further inspection. www.cheapfares.com
