MGM Grand Introduces “Healthy” Rooms

Given that there seems to be almost an unlimited supply of cheap airplane tickets and cheap vacation packages to Las Vegas, often the most difficult decision a potential visitor faces is which hotel to stay at. MGM has decided to make a special effort to appeal to health conscious guests.

MGM Grand Hotel & Casino introduced 42 Stay Well Rooms on Friday, November 2nd, designed to offset the effect of jet lag, improve sleep, and reduce some of the morning after headaches.

These rooms feature amenities including blue shaded lighting to help fight jet lag, dawn simulating alarm clocks that allow guests to wake up slowly, and air and water filtration systems that eliminate toxins and pathogens.

Special showers infuse water with Vitamin C which is supposed to promote healthy hair and skin.

MGM decided to introduce these special rooms in part because some of its guests lifestyle at home is already similar to what these rooms have to offer. Although most hotel visitors are not expected to start viewing Las Vegas as a health retreat stop, some visitors are looking for a less toxic visit.

MGM said that it collaborated over four years with doctors and researchers at Columbia University Medical School, among others, in developing its healthy room concept.

Some health experts are dubious regarding the salutary effects of such rooms. While admittedly they may improve a guests experience, a placebo effect is also likely. History has shown that when people are told that a treatment will make them feel better that they usually claim to feel better afterwards.

Stay Well Rooms generally run $20 to $30 above the hotels standard room rates.
