Long Island May be in JetBlue’s Future

Cheap airplane tickets and cheap vacation packages may be in Long Islands future if Senator Schumer has his way and JetBlue starts flying out of Long Islands MacArthur Airport in Ronkonkoma, New York.

JetBlue has announced its intention to expand in the Northeast in 2013. Given that MacArthur Airport is 50 miles east of New York City and 30 miles west of New Hampton, Senator Schumer argues that this airport is perfectly situated for JetBlue to offer its passengers a traffic free and hassle free alternative to New Yorks major airports.

He points out that JetBlue can grow its business into a region that is bigger than 19 states and that the airport does not need to be renovated or add terminals to handle JetBlue flights.

MacArthur Airport is one and a half miles from the Ronkonkoma Station on the Long Island Railroad which provides train service to New York City, taking up to one hour and 25 minutes. A shuttle is provided to the rail station. The airport offers a shuttle/train pack to New York City for $16.50 one way for an adult.

Travelers wanting to go to the Hamptons have to switch trains, or get a taxi, or rent a car. Such travelers will find that they are closer to New Yorks famous beachfront via MacArthur Airport than by flying into JFK or LaGuardia. www.cheapfares.com
