Keeping Children Occupied at Airports

Trips that seemingly were planned brilliantly with the purchase of cheap airplane tickets and discount hotel rooms or cheap vacation packages can quickly go bad when unexpected delays at the airports cause children to get impatient with little or nothing to do.

Fortunately the amenities and activities at family friendly airports can make a long delay actually enjoyable. The following are some of the countrys more family friendly airports:

Orlando International Airport offers a new game arcade, the Kennedy Space Center shop with a video wall showing films of NASA launches and photo opportunities using celebrity statues including Mickey Mouse and Snow White. Its food court is entertaining where kids can find fish made famous in the Disney film Finding Nemo located inside a 3,000 gallon saltwater aquarium.

San Francisco International Airport offers free train rides circling the airport, three aquariums, a weather themed play area and a series of family oriented self guided tours. Over 40 exhibits are offered annually by the airports museum program designed specifically to appeal to kids.

Las Vegas McCarran International Airport is where kids can have fun in an aviation themed play area that includes a miniature control tower and a mock engine. It houses a 24 hour museum that shares the colorful history of aviation in Southern Nevada. Of course adults can stay busy playing on one of the airports 1,300 slot machines.

Chicagos OHare International Airport has an airport themed Kids on the Fly play area where kids can tag and weigh luggage, load cargo, fly planes, and direct air traffic. It also houses a four story model of a brachiosaurus in from of a Field Museum store.

Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport has two Junior Flyers Clubs stocked with aviation themed toy structures. The airport has interactive sculptures one of which includes an arched tunnel big enough for two people and sounds, glass walls, and labyrinth link floor pattern which form a walk in game where no instructions are needed.

Denver International Airport, Pittsburgh International Airport, Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport all are well known for supporting children friendly displays and activities. www.cheapfares.com
