JetBlue Plans to Remain Independent

JetBlue Airways enjoys a strong reputation for offering cheap airplane tickets and cheap vacation packages. Its loyal customers do not need to worry, according to JetBlue, about the airlines getting gobbled up in an airline merger, saying it prefers to grow on its own.

JetBlues CEO has stated that the company growth strategy has proved to be the right path forward and his airline would not be distracted from its goals by considering a merger.

JetBlue plans to grow organically, focusing on growth opportunities in Boston and the Caribbean. Its CEO has stated that the company could easily double its size overnight, but does not want its balance sheet, culture and brand to take the type of negative hit such growth would incur.

Even given JetBlues determination to remain independent, analysts have observed that the airlines strong position in New York may make it a key player in any new merger plans. JetBlues base is New Yorks JFK International airport.

JetBlues CEO commented that airlines that grow through mergers may be bigger, but they are also distracted by their own integration issues and they usually take their eye off the customer. He sees other airline mergers as opportunities for JetBlue to win by playing our game even better and competing on our own terms.
