JetBlue Announces Boston to Newark Service

In what amounts to great news for cheap airplane tickets and cheap vacation packages, JetBlue has unveiled plans to fly four times daily between Boston and Newark starting next May. JetBlue said its service will bring the only low fare competition into a notoriously high fare market.

JetBlue has not revealed how much tickets will cost between Newark and Boston. It did note that the average one way fare between these two cities in the first quarter was $280.

Continental is the only airline currently flying the Newark to Boston route. JetBlue operates six daily flights between Boston and New Yorks Kennedy airport.

JetBlue may find it has more competition flying into and out of Newark given that Southwest Airlines has announced it will lease 36 slots from Continental at Newark and will start flying out of that airport in March. It has not been announced where Southwest will fly from Newark.

JetBlue currently flies from Newark to four cities in Florida.
