Hotels Offering Incentives

Discount travel packages and discount hotel rooms will offer better deals this fall with major hotel chains making promotional offers to fill room and encourage repeat guests.

Promotional offers, including free nights and up to triple bonus points, are being extended because the fall is typically when hotels have fewer visitors and hotels are further motivated by a slow return of guests following the recession.

Although the number of travelers is increasing, as well as their spending, neither has returned to pre-recession levels. Historically fewer leisure travelers are on the road in the fall.

The following are examples of promotions being offered:

Starwood is awarding double points to guests who stay up to nine nights through December 14th. Preferred Guests will earn triple points if they stay 10 or more nights.

10,000 loyalty bonus points will be awarded members of Hyatts Gold Passport program after five nights through December 15th.

Double points are being earned by Best Western reward members who stay at least two nights before November 21st.

A free night can be earned by Marriott Reward members who pay for two stays using a Visa credit card by January 15th.

Travel experts are forecasting a 4 percent increase in hotel occupancy this year compared to last year. Average daily room rates this year are expected to be flat, which is good news for guests since rates were down in 09 by almost 9 percent.

Hotels are further being motivated to offer great deals because few business and leisure travelers are exhibiting blind loyalty. They are staying at hotels offering the best savings which is leading hotels to offer even more incentives, such as free Wi-Fi and breakfasts.
