Health Concerns are Making Travelers More Proactive

As attractive as cheap airplane tickets and cheap travel in general is to most travelers, arriving at your destination in good health is also highly valued.

More than half of adult travelers say they are taking more proactive steps to avoid catching the flu this year vs. last year, according to poll taken by the Harvard School of Public Health.

81% of individuals who traveled over the past year said they will sneeze into their elbows rather than their hands on their next trip. Only 64 % said they did this on their most recent trip.

Hand sanitizers will be in carry on luggage for 76% of travelers vs. 61% who carried them last year. 49% of travelers said they planned on getting the seasonal flu shot vs. only 35% who got this shot last year.

This survey revealed that 96% of travelers wash their hands regularly to stay germ free.

Airplanes are where travelers are most concerned about picking up the flu. 52% of travelers surveyed said that they are either very or somewhat concerned that they or a member of their family would contract H1N1 or seasonal flu while flying next year.
