Enjoying Vacations with Teenagers

Even the best planned trip, that comes with cheap airplane tickets and discount hotel rooms or cheap vacation packages can prove challenging when traveling with teenagers.

The following are tips from the Family Vacation Critic website on how to enjoy a happy and peaceful family vacation with teenagers:

Before finalizing any vacation plans request your teens input. By including your teen in planning your vacation, your teen will feel more involved and be more likely to look forward to that vacation.

Think outside of the box and consider possible destinations in depth before settling on one so that everyones vacation expectations can be met.

When considering which hotel to stay at remember having lots of attractions nearby can make life easier. Travel between sights can be reduced and your teen can take time to explore the area around your hotel.

Be flexible. Keeping the peace sometimes means more dessert than dinner, more movies than museums, and/or sleeping in vs. visiting yet another tourist site. Keeping the peace makes vacations that much more enjoyable.

Do not dwell on unpleasant vacation moments. When fights and/or meltdowns occur try to move on as quickly as possible.

If it is not cost prohibitive, encourage your teen to bring a friend. This often results in more vacation downtime for adults.

Suggest that your teen choose an activity.

Give you teen a budget for souvenirs and let him or her keep any leftover money.

Provide your teen space. If your budget can handle it, book adjoining hotel rooms. Teens tend to highly value privacy and feel better when they have their own space.

Let your teen sleep in on vacation. Sleeping in is often the best part of a teens vacation.
