Eating When Every Place is Closed

While ideally your dining choices would be other than eating out of your minibar, sometimes in order to save money cheap airplane tickets and cheap vacation packages may deliver you to your destination when there are no other dining options.

Minibars tend to be quite expensive and usually you will be able to find cheaper meals out on the street. However, late arriving guests sometimes find that room service is closed as are any outside restaurants.

Many people mistakenly believe that only junk food is available in minibars. While you will want to avoid sweet offerings, you should look for things like trail mix and nuts, which have higher nutritional value that the average candy bar. Fruit juices and vitamin waters are a better option than soft drinks.

Water is a great way to partially fill your stomach and take the edge off hunger. Before raiding your minibar, consider drinking three glasses of tap water which will be much cheaper than drinking bottles of water in the minibar.

If you know you are going to be arriving late at your destination, consider planning ahead a little and bringing some snacks. A package of Ramen noodles can be mixed with some hot water from your hotel rooms coffee maker to make a late night snack.
