Disney Introducing Weekly Park Surprises

Disney parks have often attracted visitors in part because of the ample supply of discount hotel rooms and cheap vacation packages. Now Disney is seeking to widen its appeal by coming out with weekly surprise themes and events in 2013 in the companys California and Florida parks.

Disneys Limited Time Magic program will include impromptu concerts, dance parties, colored lights, character meet and greets, new menus, and merchandise items, as well as other events.

Twitter, blogs, websites and other online activity will be used to let park visitors know what is happening. Disney is considering asking guests to vote on which characters they would like to see or sending guests out on scavenger hunts with hints to figure out what is new or different.

The intent of this program is to find new ways to get visitors engaged.

To dramatize the short term nature of its weekly surprises Disney built a 25 foot tall castle made of ice in Times Square.

Every Limited Time Magic theme will last a single week. Plans include celebrations of July Fourth, Pirate Week, 3-D chalk art, and Long Lost Friends Week which will feature less well known Disney characters. There will be a Valentines Day celebration that will include pink and red lighting on Disney castles and romantic candlelit dinners in park restaurants.
