Although travel prices have crept up in select U.S. markets, there remain plenty of cheap travel options, be they cheap airplane tickets, discount hotel rooms, and cheap vacation packages if you know where to look.
The following are where to find some of the current most outstanding travel bargains:
Mexico: drug related violence concentrated near its border with the U.S. has caused many tourists to avoid the entire country. This in turn has lead to tremendous bargains in Cancun, Cabo San Lucas and other resort areas. Unbelievable deals are being offered to try to fill hotel rooms. Discounts are even great in interior cities.
Nepal: offers fabulous views of Mount Everest and tourists can take incredible cultural tours out of Kathmandu. Fully outfitted whitewater rafting trips can be had for under $50 per day. Because of recent political problems, the bargains are greater than usual to attract tourists.
Indonesia: consists of a whole chain of islands that offer beaches, diving, mountains and culture. Resort islands like Bali are easy to travel to.
Honduras: tourism has been hurt since a political power struggle in 09. The country retains its reputation for first class diving and Mayan ruins. Visiting Roatan is like going to the Caribbean without the Caribbean prices. Hotels and diving cost less than half what you would pay in the Caribbean.
Vietnam: appeals to a wide range of tourists given its $ 5 per night flophouses for backpackers and luxury hotels. The U.S. dollar gained almost 6% against the Vietnamese currency last year. The food is terrific and tours can easily be arranged at hotels.
Greece: has excess capacity because of last years protests and strikes as well as the recession. Greece is hurting for tourists and is expanding its discounts, particularly at hotels, tours, and island vacations to attract more visitors.
Ireland: has added many hotels during its recent economic boom resulting in hoteliers now reporting problems filling rooms. Compounding the problem is Irelands financial crisis; all of which is resulting in falling prices for tourists.
Hungary: offers much of the old world charm of its western nations at lower prices. Hungary has not yet moved over to the euro. Its currency dropped by more 10 percent against the dollar in 2010, making everything that much cheaper. Budapest remains pricey, but the wine country offers some terrific deals.
United States: By visiting tourist destinations during non holiday and non peak travel times great deals can be had. Places like Las Vegas and Orlando depend on conventions and consequently offer great prices during non-convention periods.
