Delta Creating a LaGuardia Hub

Since increased competition tends to positively impact the prices of cheap fares, whether cheap airplane tickets or cheap vacation packages, Delta Air Lines plan to create a new domestic hub at New Yorks LaGuardia Airport will be greeted positively by many travelers.

Delta contends its new LaGuardia hub will bring service to that airport that exceeds any other airline and that this move will make it the top domestic airline at the three New York area airports. It intends to fly over 400 daily domestic departures to destinations across the country.

Deltas expansion plans were made possible as the result of an agreement between it and US Airways to exchange take-off and landing rights at LaGuardia and Ronald Regan Washington National Airport.

With Delta flights commencing either in March or July of next year, Deltas new destinations from LaGuardia will include Charlotte, Cleveland, Denver, Dallas/Fort Worth, Houston, Miami, Milwaukee and Pittsburgh. It will also offer new all jet service to Buffalo, Rochester and Syracuse, destinations previously served with turboprop planes.

New flights are planned to Burlington, Vt., Roanoke, Va. and Wilmington, N.C. Delta will increase the frequency of flights to Chicago, Nashville, Portland, Me., and Raleigh/Durham.

Delta will invest $100 million to expand Terminals C and D at LaGuardia and build a 600 foot connector bridge to link the two.

Deltas vastly increased LaGuardia flight schedule will result in it flying to almost all of the top 50 domestic destinations, making LaGuardia an extremely convenient airport to fly out of and into. Experts believe that the convenience of LaGuardia will give Delta a significant advantage vs. travelers having to fly out of Newark or JFK.

With Delta taking such a strong position at LaGuardia, a dogfight is expected between Delta and United at Newark, which has taken over Continentals hub there, for the most dominant position in New York. www.cheapfares.com
