To differentiate its airline from other airlines also claiming to offer cheap airplane tickets and cheap vacation packages, Delta Air Lines is adding Wi-Fi to its fleet of regional jets.
Delta claims it will be the first airline in the world to provide in flight internet service onboard its regional aircraft.
In flight Wi-Fi is already offered by Delta on all of the 550 plus jets in its mainline fleet. Extending Wi-Fi to its regional jets will mean an additional 250 Delta planes will offer this service.
Delta did acknowledge that only regional jets with first class will receive the Wi-Fi upgrade. Those jets offering only coach class seating will not.
The Wi-Fi upgrades are part of a broader effort, according to Delta to fully align service on Delta Connection and mainline flights. Recent improvements have included adding First Class cabins to 82 additional CRJ700 jets; introducing meal service in First Class on regional jets; and adding china, linen and silverware to Delta Connection First Class cabins.
The installation of onboard Wi-Fi on Deltas regional jets is expected to be completed by early 2012 by which time over 80 percent of Deltas entire domestic fleet will feature Gogo in flight Internet.
Delta observed that it now features the worlds smallest (65 seat CRJ700) and largest (261 seat B767-300) aircraft equipped with Wi-Fi. www.cheapfares.com
