Continental falls in line with peak day price increase

Continental Airlines announced Thursday, 11/19, it is joining other carriers in increasing surcharges for trips taken on peak travel days in March and April by $30 each way.

Delta, Northwest, United and American had previously announced surcharges added on to base fares of $20 each way for the same days of travel.

Surcharges sometimes vary by airline, however the previously announced increases in price are for several of the biggest airlines for travel On March 14th, 20, 21st, and 28th, as well as April 5th and 11th.

Since September, airlines have announced a series of surcharges, as well as expanding the number of days they apply, totally 40 between now and May of 2010.

Earlier in the week, US Airways announced it will add an additional 5% surcharge on all flights as of May 8th, 2010, because according to the airline fuel prices may be increasing by then.

Now, more than ever, is the time to purchase cheap flights before even more surcharges are announced and before some of the current price increases are implemented. Customers wanting even greater savings should look into making hotel and airline reservations together since the savings can amount to as much as $600 per week when booked as a package.
