Combining Business with Leisure Trips Gaining Popularity

Discount hotel rooms and cheap airplane tickets are top priorities of many business travelers. Business travelers expectations are changing though as they increasingly bring along a friend or family members on their business trips.

A recent survey found 77 percent of business people took a family member or a significant other on their most recent business trip. 47 percent said that they do this the majority of the time. 64 percent said that they added one or more additional days to their last business trip.

The trend of combining business and leisure travel began more than 10 years ago as the number of dual career families rose. Such families discovered that they had more money but less time. Blended travel has become a popular way for families to enjoy time together.

Even traditional leisure hotels, such as Great Wolf Resorts, are noticing more blended trips. Great Wolf Results features indoor water parks as well as offering meeting spaces. Initially its focus was on leisure travel.

Over time the company discovered their rooms were being reserved regularly by families midweek, often when meeting spaces were being used at the same time. One parent would attend meetings while the other would be with the kids in the water.

Great Wolf Resorts has increased its meeting and convention space at some locations and in all new resorts to take advantage of the trend of business trips that include families.
