Cheap Travel Just Got Cheaper: Earn Frequent Flier Miles While You Shop

Why stop at purchasing cheap fares and discount hotel rooms? Now the airlines are encouraging travelers participating in frequent flier programs to earn miles from their preferred online retail partners via links at airline shopping mall websites.

The price you pay by purchasing an item from the airlines shopping mall sites is the same that you would pay buying directly from participating online retailers. To find the best deal (in terms of the number of frequent flier points awarded per dollar spent) you will need to do some shopping around. Some airlines offer better deals than other competing airline mall sites.

Since most travelers participate in more than one Airline frequent flier program, it pays to check and see if one of your frequent flier programs is offering more miles per dollar than the others to shop at the same retailer.

There are hundreds of online retailers participating in these mileage offers, including Walmart, Target, Old Navy, Drugstore.com, 800Flowers.com, Apple, and Nordstrom. Not all retailers participate in all airline shopping malls.

Most online shopping retailers offer at least one mile per dollar spent, but sometimes they offer as much as 10 miles per dollar. This is a great way to earn frequent flier miles from home. Plus a side benefit of such purchase is that if you are faced with expiring frequent flier miles and not planning to fly soon this is a great way to extend the life of frequent flier miles you have earned.
