Cheap Summer Destinations

Just because you are on a budget and want to travel via cheap traveloptions, such as cheapairplane tickets, discount hotel rooms, discounttravel deals, cheapdeals, and cheap vacation packages, do notassume that fabulous vacation spots are necessarily out of reach.

  • Istanbulis attractive in part because it is a European destination with some of thecheapest ticket prices to Europe from the U.S. One way tickets from New York cost around $600. Turkish Airlines is offering particularlycompetitive fares and offers direct flights to Istanbul from 12 cities in theAmericas. This year the airline hasadded routes from San Francisco and Miami.

  • NewYorks tourism board is promoting a Free in NYC campaign in an attempt to attractbudget travelers. Dozens of freeactivities and events are being offered, from food festivals to outdoor yoga toa swing dance flash mob. New andaffordable hotels continue to open in the city. Big Apple hotel prices are staying relatively low in part to a shadowinventory of rental properties listed on sites such as Airbnb andHomeAway.

  • Essaouira,Morocco is a UNESCO recognized seaside affordable resort town. Discount airline EasyJet has made it cheaperthan ever to get there. EasyJet flightsfrom London (Luton) to Essaouira are as little as $49, making this a veryaffordable escape to add onto a summer European trip.

    Currently, though not for long, touristsenjoy the kind of prices only seen in yet to be discovered blockbusterdestinations. Many merchants acceptEuros. The U.S. dollar is trading veryfavorably compared to the local currency. A night in Madada Mogador, a hotel overlooking the Atlantic can be hadfor as little as $112.

  • AtlanticCity is pulling out all stops to woo back travelers to its boardwalk andbeaches. This city has been losingvisitors to casino centers that have opened in nearby states resulting in fourAtlantic City casinos closing last year.

    New attractions and lodging continue toopen, including the Claridge Hotel with its in house art gallery, and a newGordon Ramsay restaurant at Caesars Atlantic City Hotel & Casino. This summer Atlantic City is positioningitself to be the entertainment capital of the Jersey Shore. Two massive beachside concerts are plannedfor August. Hotels and vacation packagesare very affordable.

  • Big Sur,CA is an ideal place to travel to by car and enjoy the spectacularly beautifulPacific Coast Highway. While Big Sureoffers expensive luxury accommodations, it also offers some stunning places tostay near the ocean for very little. Kirk Creek Campground sits on a high bluff overlooking the Pacific. All its camping sites have ocean views andcosts only $25 per night.

  • Port auPrince, Haiti remains a desirable destination, despite continuing to rebuildfrom its massive earthquake from four years ago, unlike any other island in theCaribbean. It has a rich history, astrong African culture, an exceptional arts and music scene, and breathtakingbeaches.

    This less traveled Caribbean island remainsfirmly off the beaten path. Americanscan take advantage of exceptional airfares, such as round trip flights from NewYork to Port au Prince in July and August for as little as $167 on Delta. There are plenty of affordable accommodationssuch as Hotel Oloffson, a turn of the century mansion turned hotel for $100 anight and the Seven Stars Hotel, who offers rates as cheap as $72.
