Charleston, S.C. Places 2nd on Best City List

Charleston, well known for being a destination that can be reached with cheap airplane tickets and enjoyed with cheap vacation packages recently was rated the second best city by Travel & Leisure readers.

This is Charlestons highest ranking during the 16 year history of this magazines best city list, improving from its third place ranking last year. By gaining the number 2 spot Charleston displaced San Francisco. New York City came in first for the eleventh consecutive year.

Four South Carolina hotels and resorts were voted among the top hotels in the Worlds Best Awards readers survey this year: two in Charleston and two outside of the city.

The top 10 cities in the U.S. and Canada in 2011 according to Travel and Leisure respondents were:

2. Charleston, South Carolina
3. Chicago
4. San Francisco
5. Santa Fe, New Mexico
6. New Orleans
7. Savannah
8. Vancouver
9. Victoria, British Columbia
10. Quebec City

The South Carolina properties rated among the best hotels and resorts in the Continental U.S. and Canada were:

Inn at Palmetto Bluff, an Auberge Resort, Bluffton, South Carolina ranked No. 7 on the list of Top 50 Resorts in the Continental U.S. and Canada and ranked No. 60 on the list of Worlds Best Hotels Overall.

Planters Inn, Charleston ranked No. 10 on the list of Top 10 Small City Hotels in the Continental U.S. and Canada.

Sanctuary Hotel at Kiawah Island Golf Resort, South Carolina ranked No. 17 on list of Top 50 Resorts in the Continental U.S. and Canada and ranked No. 97 on the list of Worlds Best Hotels Overall.

Charleston Place Hotel is the top-rated hotel in Charleston and ranks No. 26 on the list of Top Large City Hotels in the Continental U.S. and Canada www.cheapfares.com
