Believe It or Not Airport Stories

Some would be fliers think that it is funny trying to get something past airport security after the purchase of cheap airplane tickets and discount hotel rooms or cheap vacation packages.

The following are true stories of outrageous things passengers tried which might be thought funny by some but should be avoided if a traveler does not want to land in a hospital or jail:

Two New Jersey teens got caught at New Orleans Louis Armstrong International Airport in 2008 for riding a luggage conveyor belt past security and into a sterile area.

A passenger tried to get a fully gassed-up power chainsaw through security by putting it in his carry-on luggage.

A traveler tried to push a dead relative in a wheelchair onto a plane in order to avoid paying the fee for transporting a dead body.

In 2006 a 29 year old man who was traveling with his mother was questioned by security guards about a grenade shaped item. Since he did not want to admit in front of his mother that it was part of a sexual enhancement device, he said it was a bomb.

A U.S. citizen returning from Tel Aviv in 2008 told authorities at JFK that he had nothing to declare. A search of his luggage revealed over $1.2 million in diamonds.

A German sports reporter was running late for a flight and called in a fake bomb threat. He was caught when he called to ask about the yet to be announced delay. An assistant in Miami called in a bomb threat when her boss was behind schedule in 2009 for a flight to Honduras. She followed up her phone threat which an email which was later traced.

A woman tried to smuggle marijuana through metal detectors by wrapping it in aluminum foil.

A Thai woman flying from Bangkok to Iran in 2010 unsuccessfully tried to fool customs agents by transporting a drugged tiger cub in a bag of stuffed toys. Another woman got caught trying to pass through a security checkpoint with 75 snakes in her bra.

After being told that he would have to throw away a full liter of vodka or pay to check it, a 64 year old man changing planes at Nuremberg Airport downed the entire bottle. Instead of making the flight, he was rushed to a nearby hospital for alcohol poisoning. www.cheapfares.com
