Once you have carefully reviewed your cheap traveloptions, including cheapairplane tickets, discount hotel rooms, and cheap vacation packages, youshould make a point of checking out best airline surveys since oftencompeting airlines will sell tickets on the same routes for similar, if notidentical, prices. When that is thecase, savvy travelers do their best to fly on the best airlines.

While there can be no definitive best U.S. airline, becausethere is no one way to evaluate competitors, a review of recent airline ratingsby different sources is useful to see if any patterns are apparent in airlinerankings.

The following are some of the top airline surveys:

TripAdvisorsdeveloped its best airline list based on reader feedback taken from airlinereviews submitted between February 2016 and February 2017. Its readers favored Delta over other majorU.S. airlines. JetBlue was highestranked among mid-size and low cost airlines.

Theannual Airline Quality Rating study, focused on four areas of airlineperformance: mishandled bags, on-time arrivals, denied boarding, and customercomplaints. Using those criteria, thestudy ranked U.S. airlines as follows:

SmarterTravels 2017Editors Choice rankings looked at seven factors that it believed most likelyaffects the average traveler: hard product, soft product, reliability, scope,fees, complaints, and frequent flyer program. Each factor was given a weight and the top five airlines were:

3. Southwest

4. Delta

5. United

The Points Guys Bestand Worst Airlines rankings were derived by looking at 10 criteria which fellinto four categories including price, convenience, headaches, and extras. Its top five airlines were:

1. Alaska

2. United

3. Virgin America

4. JetBlue

5. American

Travel & Leisure Worlds Best airline awards weredetermined by looking at cabin comfort, service, food, customer service, andvalue. Its top ranked airlines were:

1. Virgin America

2. JetBlue

3. Hawaiian

4. Alaska

5. Southwest

Oneairline came in top rated in three of the five above surveys, and was ranked inthe top five in a fourth: AlaskaAirlines. Runner-up was JetBlue whichplaced in the top five in all five surveys.
