App Battles Airport Security Racial Profiling

Some minorities enticed to fly because of cheap airplane tickets and cheap vacation packages question whether they should travel because of perceived racial profiling at airports. A new app called FlyRights allows travelers to quickly report unfair treatment at airport security lines.

The app allows users to file official complaints regarding racial profiling by Transportation Security Administration (TSA) agents as well as other types of discrimination.

This app is being introduced by the Sikh Coalition, a civil rights group. The organization observed that Sikh travelers have been exposed to discriminatory screening and pat downs at airport checkpoints across the United States. Sikhs are often singled out for additional screening because they tend to wear turbans and have long beards.

Travelers who believe they have been inappropriately treated in an airport security line can use the app to file an official incident report directly with TSA, the Department of Homeland Security, the Sikh Coalition, or all three organizations.

The app asks On what ground(s) do you believe you experienced discrimination? Options listed are disability, ethnicity, gender, nationality, race, or religion. The app requests the name and badge number of the screening security agent. It only takes seconds for the complaint to be received.

FlyRights also comes with a guide of air traveler rights, including links to TSAs official screening policies and security information in different languages. The app is free and available in iPhone and Android formats.

TSA contends that it does not profile travelers on the basis of ethnicity, race or religion. www.cheapfares.com
