American Airlines Commences Luggage Delivery

While American Airlines well knows the importance of offering cheap airplane tickets and cheap vacation packages, it continues to look for ways to positively differentiate itself from its competitors. Starting the week of August 6th American passengers have been able to pay to have their bags delivered at their destination.

This service can be arranged when making a reservation or up to two hours prior to a schedule departure time. Prices range from $29.95 to $49.95 based on the amount of luggage. American is offering baggage delivery from over 200 U.S. airports as well as select cities overseas.

Bags whose destination is within 40 miles of an airport should arrive within one to four hours. Addresses farther away will cost an additional dollar for every extra mile, with delivery times between four to six hours.

This new service is expected by American to particularly appeal to business travelers who want to go into a meeting or office and do not want to be delayed because they have to wait to claim their luggage. The airline also believes baggage delivery will appeal to families traveling with children, expecially when they have multiple checked bags to deal with.

Previously, United, for a short time offered a door to door baggage delivery program via FedEx. American claims to be the only U.S. airline currently offering such a service.

If this service proves popular, other airlines are expected to quickly offer similar service. Travelers with higher incomes who value convenience are expected to view this as a very attractive service. www.cheapfares.com
