Travelers are looking for more than simply cheap airplane tickets or cheap vacation packages when traveling. They also value free Wi-Fi access. Over the holiday season, AirTran Airways, Delta Air Lines and Virgin America are working with Google to provide passengers free in flight Wi-Fi.
Free Wi-Fi will be offered by the three airlines from November 20th until January 2nd. Free Internet access is being made available on more than 700 planes and to approximately 15 million passengers during the promotion, according to Google.
Participating airlines have outfitted their entire domestic fleet with Gogo Inflight Wi-Fi. Given this promotion, more connected passengers are anticipated this holiday season in the air than ever before. When signing in passengers will first be taken to an ad page sponsored by Googles Chrome browser.
Gogo passes which enables passengers access to Wi-Fi in the air usually costs $12.95 per pass for flights over three hours. Gogo currently operates only on domestic flights.
In 2009 Google provided free Wi-Fi to travelers for almost two months over the holiday season at 32 airports that previously were charging for the service. Travelers who logged on to one of these airport Wi-Fi networks were asked to try Google products, make Google.com their home page, and donate to charities. Google also ran a promotion offering free in flight Wi-Fi on Virgin America aircraft last year.
